Understanding and defining virtual social networks with an emphasis on Instagram (case study: divorced women in Ilam)

Abstract

Today's age is under the attack of mass communication media such as satellite, television and especially the Internet. People no longer see themselves as limited and communicate with others regardless of the time-space distance. By entering families, mass communication media and especially the Internet have caused extensive changes in the roles and tasks related to them, the rights of the members. The purpose of this research is to understand, define and interpret divorced women from virtual social networks with an emphasis on Instagram.. The research paradigm is constructive and interpretive, and the research strategy is phenomenological. The studied population includes all divorced women of Ilam city. The data collection tool is an in-depth interview.The definition and mental meaning of divorced women from virtual social networks were categorized in the form of 3 categories: "virtual social networks as a shaper of new lifestyles", virtual social networks as a dysfunctional space", and "cultural numbing tool". Also, before entering these networks, the relations between husband and wife were classified from the point of view of divorced women in the categories of "family cohesion" and "absence of crisis in the integrity of the family institution". Finally, the relationships of the spouses by entering the Instagram space were categorized with the categories of break from the kinship network, problems related to agency, display of consumption, transformation of value system.
