Evaluation of the Performance of Non-Governmental Organisations in the Field of Women and Family in Iran

Abstract

With regard to important and necessity of organized participation of women in achieve to comprehensive and sustainable development, the present article examines the performance of non-governmental organisations in the field of women and family. The present study has been conducted with evaluation research design and a combination of quantitative (survey) and qualitative (qualitative content analysis) methodologies. The population and size of the statistical sample consisted of three groups: (1) managers of non-governmental organizations active in the field of women and family in the 17 provinces studied (365 persons), 2) experts and theorists (12 persons), and 3) managers or experts responsible for NGOs in women office in governorates (19 persons). The findings showed that more than fourth five of five NGOs were active and the remaining semi-active. Majority of the role of NGOs studied was in the field of education and the weakest ones were related to policy making. The most important problems of these organizations can be considered as seven financial, legal, administrative, political, institutional, social and cultural, and managerial problems respectively. In general, it describes the reality of women and family's NGOs in this way: non-NGOs, NGO's reduction to charity institutions, lack of specific situation and roles for NGOs, and fever collaboration with NGOs. The findings indicate that women and family's NGOs are not agent in the field of women and family, and at the present time, they have low effectiveness in the field of women and family affairs at national and provincial levels.
