The experience of pregnancy is examined, focusing on two key components: women and pregnancy, with the aim of gaining a comprehensive understanding of the population issue in Iran. This study employs a thematic analysis approach, concentrating on data extracted from semi-structured interviews with 30 pregnant women in Ardabil. Eleven basic themes were identified: pregnancy as a positive imperative, family pressure, the status of pregnancy, the influence of masculinity, pregnancy within a medical framework, the virtual space, resistance, intended pregnancy, feminine opposition, worry, and perceived limitations. These themes were organized into three overarching themes: traditional structure, modern structure, and agency. The final model was developed as a network of themes titled "Pregnancy in the Conflict of Structure and Agency." The research findings suggest that pregnancy is more than a biological event; it is a multifaceted process. Women's lived experiences during this process are shaped by their encounters with its various aspects. This experience is lived by conscious actors within a dialectical context of traditional and modern institutions such as family and medicine. Consequently, the experience is fluid and takes on different dimensions throughout the pregnancy period. It is an amalgamation of choices, obligations, oppositions, and determinations that are shaped in the interplay between agency and structure. Effective management of the current fertility trend requires attention to the dialectical space of this experience and its implications for future decision-making.
